About Mykita UK
MYKITA was founded 2003 by Harald Gottschling, Daniel Haffmans, Philipp Haffmans and Moritz Krueger. What to some may sound like an Asian-style name was in fact inspired by the firm’s first premises – a former day-care centre for children (in East Germany abbreviated to „Kita“).
Just a year later, the world was introduced to MYKITA *Collection No.1* – an evolutionary step up in terms of both design and exclusivity. The all-new range of metal frames was unveiled at the Silmo international eyewear fair in the fall of 2004. A highly innovative functional design comprising simple plug connections made complex soldered joints and screw connections redundant, while the frames themselves were cut out of stainless sheet steel before being folded into form. As well as being incredibly light, the latter could be adjusted to the wearer thanks to a wide variety of configuration options. The corrective spectacles andunglasses in the collection ranged from the classically elegant to avantgarde designs in a wide range of frame colours. A frame for every face. Exactly two years later, a new collection was unveiled at the 2006 Silmo. In a marked departure from previous frames, MYKITA *Collection No.2* were made from full-bodied acetate – a material that enjoys a huge tradition in the eyewear industry. What set the new spectacles apart was the hinge – a connecting element that hugs the front and temples in the style of a sheath. The designs are crisp, clear and distinctive and are each related to frames from the metal collection. A carefully selected range of nine distinct colours gives *Collection No.2* a varied but nonetheless homogenous collective look. All frames are hand-made at MYKITA’s own production site in Berlin and are available at over 1,400 high-end opticians and selected department stores across the globe.

These glasses are made with top-quality stainless steel, just 0.5 mm thick, ensuring an ultra-light feel. The actual production of MYKITA eyewear sees every part of the frame cut out of sheet metal and folded into a lightweight but full-bodied format. Linking these is a remarkably elegant and intelligent screw-less hinge design that ensures total flexibility and allows complete, custom-fit adaptability of inclination and frame according to the wearers’ facial proportions. The technical wizardry is coupled with aesthetic clarity and optimum vision to provide a recognisable trademark for MYKITA. To apply most of the colours featured in the collection, MYKITA chose a PVD finish – a state-of-the-art vacuum-heat coating technique that guarantees a non-oxidizing and highly wear-resistant surface. The prescription frames in *Collection No.1* are available in a choice of ten colours, the sunglasses in eight colours. MYKITA collection No. 1 – over 50 styles available in a choice of 10 colours.

The MYKITA design team had for some time been planning to make a collection incorporating a fuller-bodied material, and eventually decided on cellulose acetate. Basically composed of cotton, wood pulp, acetate and pigments, it is a natural material that has a long tradition in the eyewear industry. *Collection No.2* indeed shares a variety of features with the original concept. It features a “snap-hinge” made of 0.8 mm flat sheet metal familiar from the construction principles applied in the first collection. A major new innovation was the use of photomechanical etching technology. The connection point between the hinge and the acetate frame likewise represented a unique challenge for the designers. The fourteen prescription styles and six sunglasses are available in a range of opaque colours, with no lamination.

June 25, 2009 – Pop star Michael Jackson has died at age 50 after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to media reports.
Los Angeles TV station KTLA reports that Los Angeles fire officials said they responded to a 911 call at Jackson’s home and that Jackson wasn’t breathing when they arrived; paramedics performed CPR and rushed him to UCLA Medical Center, although the hospital, due to privacy rules, could not confirm that.
In a cardiac arrest, the heart stops working properly. A cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack, but it can happen because of a heart attack, notes Douglas Zipes, MD, MACC, distinguished professor at Indiana University School of Medicine and past president of the American College of Cardiology.
Zipes explains that “cardiac arrest is a heart rhythm disturbance when the bottom chamber of the heart, the ventricles, beat an at extremely rapid rate — 4 to 600 times a minute.”
Zipes says that heart rhythm “prevents that bottom chamber from effective contraction and pumping blood to the brain and to the rest of the body, and death results if it’s not reversed within four or five minutes, generally.”
According to Zipes, when that heart rhythm disturbance, which is called ventricular fibrillation, happens, the bottom chambers of the heart are “like a bag of squiggly worms without an effective squeeze, and no blood gets pumped to the rest of the body, and without the necessary oxygen in the blood vessels going to the brain, and so on, the brain then begins to die.”
CPR can help keep blood flowing, but it would take an electrical shock to the heart — either from electrical paddles called defibrillators or from an internal heart device — to shock the heart back to a normal rhythm.
“Some sort of blood flow has to be initiated, whether it’s with CPR or with the shock that terminates the fibrillation and restores an effective contraction,” says Zipes.
Zipes notes that in 30% to 50% of cardiac arrests, “that event is the first manifestation of underlying heart disease. So you may not have chest pain, you may not have shortness of breath, you may not have anything” as a warning sign.
Just over a year ago, NBC journalist Tim Russert died after a cardiac arrest. Russert was being treated for his heart disease risk factors; Jackson’s previous heart health hasn’t been made public.
The tribute:
“It’s The Falling In Love”
[1st Verse]
You’re Not Like Anybody I Ever Knew
But That Don’t Mean That I Don’t Know Where We Are
And Though I Find Myself Attracted To You
This Time I’m Trying Not To Go Too Far, Cause
[Bridge]
No Matter How It Starts It Ends The Same
Someone’s Always Doing Someone More
Trading In The Passion For That Taste Of Pain
It’s Only Gonna Happen Again
[Chorus]
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
All Night… All Night
[2nd Verse (Patti Austin)]
And Though I’m Trying Not To Look In Your Eyes
Each Time I Do They Kind Of Burn Right Through Me
Don’t Want To Lay Down In A Bed Full Of Lies
And Yet My Heart Is Saying Come And Do Me
[Bridge (Michael)]
Now We’re Just A Web Of Mystery
A Possibility Of More To Come
I’d Rather Leave The Fantasy Of What Might Be
But Here I Go Falling Again
[Chorus]
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
It’s The Fallin’ In Love That’s Makin’ Me High
It’s The Being In Love That Makes Me Cry Cry Cry
Over You… Over You (All Night)

About Stefan Johansson
For almost three decades Stefan Johansson has been one of the top drivers in the world of international motorsports. He has been successful in Formula One, IndyCar and Le Mans style sports car racing, winning both the 1997 12 hours of Sebring twice (Porsche, Ferrari) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (Porsche).
Throughout his career Stefan has driven for some of the most prestigious teams and manufacturers in the world including: Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Audi and Acura. He is still keeping very active with his racing career and is currently racing in the Le Mans prototype category as well as the newly formed Speedcar series.
When not overseeing his business interests or tending to his own racing career, Stefan is something of a Renaissance man with interests in art and design. He is also an accomplished painter with several exhibitions under his belt. In design his talent runs the gamut from creating all the watches for his Stefan Johansson Vaxjo watch company soon to be followed by other equally exclusive products such as Fragrance, Optics, Luggage, and other Accessories. Stefan has also consulted on a number of Race Track design projects. He runs his own Driver Management Company which includes the current Indianapolis 500 and the 2008 IRL series Champion Scott Dixon as well as TV Commentary, acts as an adviser and consultant to various Racing Teams and Tracks.
Stefan is a Father of Three Children, Kelly, Clara, and Stefan Jr. and currently resides in Los Angeles, CA
“I have been blessed with a wonderful life, being able to do for a living what I love to do more than anything else. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative minds and greatest teams in the world and raced against some of the best drivers in the history of the sport. I have been in a position to race at all the most demanding and famous race tracks around the world such as Le Mans, Indianapolis 500 and Monaco to name a few. Every car and track presented their own challenge. The beauty of this sport is the never ending search for ultimate perfomance both from yourself and your equipment. The challenges presented to the teams and the drivers are huge and the pressure is enourmous, and it never really lets up. It is interesting how people react in different ways to these challenges. For me personally, when you stretch yourself to a point where you have never been before, beyond your fears, there is an enourmous sense of freedom.”
